Scope

The International Symposium on the Primo-vascular System 2010 (ISPS 2010) with special topic on stem cell/regenerative medicine and cancer is to be held in Jecheon, Korea from September 17 to 18, 2010.

The ISPS 2010 is devoted to topics related to biomedical findings on the primo-vascular system, an anatomical structure corresponding to acupuncture meridians also known as the pathways of Qi in our body. Numerous proposals have been made in an attempt to provide a scientific basis for acupuncture. Among those is Bong-Han Kim's proposal of a web-like vascular system (the primo-vascular system). It is unique in that it implies a profound impact upon both Eastern and Western medicine. Unfortunately, his work was not reproduced by others and has thus been neglected for a long time. In 2002, intensive reinvestigation was launched at Seoul National University, and the primo-vascular system was subsequently re-discovered by new methods with modern biomedical imaging techniques. In addition to confirming Kim's proposal, further functional aspects of the primo-vascular system in conjunction with stem cells/regenerative medicine and cancer have emerged. This is an evolving field in which one can envision not only significant influences to biomedical research and clinical medicine but also a paradigm shift in biology and medicine.

The symposium deals with the present status and future prospect of the research on the primovascular system in context of cutting-edge investigation in medicine, molecular biology and biological physics. The symposium will provide the best opportunity to update participants on the latest biomedical research in connection with the primovascular system, with innovative presentations covering a wide range of topics and access to active network of specialists and experts on the theme “primo-vascular system as related to stem cell/regenerative medicine and cancer.”
